WORK RULES

This element of the 7P’s framework deals with people or VUCANs.  Work is all about people.  At the end of a long day, you work with and for people.  You share ideas with people.  You plan, direct, organize, and deliver with people.  You innovate new products.  You service people – your customers.

The VUCAN or people element is probably the most difficult to address in Working It.  Why?  COVID is such a devastating work disruptor. People don’t like VUCA change.  VUCANs often will take the path of least resistance (risk aversion).

Pre COVID, the technology challenge was distilled below:

“…  people who seek a well-paying, professional track career in nearly every sector are grappling with the same challenges;  reinvention of business models due to digital technology; the rise of a handful of successful ‘superstar’ firms; and rapidly changing understanding around loyalty and the level of mutual commitment to the employee-employer relationship.”[i]

In COVID time, the health and job challenges are still forming.  We simply don’t know what they are. What do you think the new works rule and norms COVID?

Hard Lesson Earned: Go over the ‘old norms’ and ‘new norms’ at the beginning of each chapter and react to each of them.  Do you agree with the change?  Do you disagree with the change and why do you disagree?
