Pickle Wars

Pickle wars? There’s no such thing. Well, guess again! In all products and services, there is death-defying competition and innovation. Companies bet the company on a new product or service. And, these services have to be launched faster and better than your competitors. This is also happening in pickles.

Vlasic Foods recently developed a three-inch diameter pickle slice or chip. Yes, pickle. This is breathtaking news in the $850 million pickle industry. Sales in the sector have been falling about 2% a year since the 1980s. Something had to be done such as develop a new concept product to spur interest and sales.

Hence the introduction of killer pickle chips. These slices are big enough to cover the entire hamburger surface. No more lengthwise prickles that mainly consist of the cucumber’s seed cavity, which can become mushy during the pickling process. These new chips have more surrounding, crunchy, and tasty pickle flesh. As well, these pickle slices are perfectly formed to stay on the hamburger.[i]
