TECHNOLOGY – LEARN TO LOVE IT

As technology advances in complexity and scope, fear becomes more primitive.

Don DeLillo – Writer.

I’m surprised how many VUCANs are techno-phobes in a tech-economy.

Wonder why?  When you hear the following words, what do you think about?  Faster.  Better.  Killer.  Cheaper.  Smaller.  Agile.  Tech and specifically the smart phone are usually at the heart of disruption. Tech both drives and facilitates this change.  Futurist Alvin Toffler called this shift to an information or knowledge-based society the Third Wave.

Moore’s law is the cornerstone of electronic goods as they’re cheaper, faster, and better. How fast is this occurring?  Computer power keeps increasing as the cost of computation falls.  Moore’s Law: computers and cell phones that double their capacity, performance, or capability every two years or cost half as much.

Tech has done much good.  But, many of us haven’t adapted well.  Americans are overwhelmed at work more than two years ago.  The reasons vary.  Stakeholder and customer expectations are increasing.  Tech is speeding up work.  Managers and supervisors use tech to monitor and control work output.  Tech drives organizational transformations.  Tech is difficult to keep up with.

Tech is critical with digitalization and transformation.  Management leverages tech to coordinate the overall direction of teams, ensure there’s alignment with the overall strategic direction, balance corporate resources, and ensure stakeholder requirements are understood and satisfied.

Work Lesson Earned So, learn to love tech.  There’s no escaping using tech at work and in your life.  Technophobia is the fastest way to ensure your professional obsolescence and even unemployment.
