What Drives Your Behavior?

Steven Reiss, an Ohio State University, researcher says any one of these 15 desires can drive our behavior:

  1. Avoidance: Desire to avoid pain and anxiety.
  2. Citizenship: Desire for public service and social justice.
  3. Curiosity: Desire to learn and explore.
  4. Family: Desire to spend time with relatives.
  5. Food: Desire to eat.
  6. Honor: Desire to adhere to a code of conduct
  7. Independence: Desire for autonomy.
  8. Order: Desire for organization and coherence.
  9. Physical Exercise: Desire for movement and exercise.
  10. Power: Desire for control.
  11. Rejection: Desire to avoid social rebuffs.
  12. Sex: Desire for sexual gratification.
  13. Social contact: Desire for companionship.
  14. Social prestige: Desire for recognition.
