Johnny Paycheck’s ‘Take This Job and Shove It’ is now the Brand U anthem. And this attitude has now mainstreamed. One of the many new phenomena of this economy is the number of people who are quitting their jobs. Fortune, the capitalist’s magazine, had a piece recently called ‘The Joy of Quitting,” Well, it used to be that people were serial workers because they were serially fired because of poor performance. Well, a new phenomenon is the serial quitter.
These people were considered disloyal and were blacklisted. Well, not anymore. Moving and changing jobs is now considered an asset of the entrepreneurial, Brand U worker. “In these prosperous times, changing jobs is as easy – and requires about as much emotional investment – as shedding an old pair of shoes,” said the Fortune article.
You say the quitter is a ‘job hopper’ and this is a career killer. Well get with it. There are now ‘I Quit’ workshops where pre and post quitters chant and meditate on how to break the pattern of working for toxic companies and fascist bosses. OK, hum with me: ‘Take This Job and ….’
