CORE WORK

In this 7P’s section, we discuss  the core Process  paradigm.  Process work means different things depending on context.  Process work for big companies involves core work processes that are repetitive, continuous, and controlled.

Process work  involves developing new business models – new ways to solve a problem, add value, make a decision, and innovate a service.  For example, Amazon’s core ability is to reinvent itself through new business models.  Amazon started with books and then went into adjacent segments reinventing new ways to discover and capture value through automation and facilitating online business from one segment to another.

Core processes are the first work to be automated.  Automation through AI or machine learning are paradigm busters.  For example, automation has disrupted the retail work business model.  Let’s look at it.  Retail workers are supposed to help customers.  Forget customer experience, think user experience (UX).  Automation puts users to work in ‘no or few worker’ retail environments.  Look at the ‘selfs’ next time you’re shopping for food.  Self-food selection.  Self-service.  Self-check out.  Self-bagging.  Self-pay.  Self-security.  Any way you get the idea. Automation has arrived and is disrupting food retail.
