Principles part of the 7P’s framework is based on finding and discovering your ‘why’ of work. Simon Sinek in Start With Why suggests you should understand your ‘why’ of work before you commit yourself to an employer, side-hustle, or startup.
Answering the ‘why’ defines the purpose or principle of work so you can live and work authentically. So, ask yourself the following questions:
- What’s your dream career, job, or work?
- Why are you doing what you’re doing?
- Why are you working for your current employer?
- More why’s?
For example, work is a calling for many workers called ‘workism’ or the ’Gospel of Work’. What do you think of the following:
The Challenge:
“For the college-educated elite, work has morphed into a religious identity—promising identity, transcendence, and community, but failing to deliver.”
The Response:
“It is the belief that work is not only necessary to economic production, but also the centerpiece of one’s identity and life’s purpose”.[i]
